Possesses a full suite of products that lead the category in size, weight, power density, thermal management, durability and costs.
For most Tier 1 automotive power electronics suppliers, your list could prove daunting with many coming up short. For Delphi Technologies? We can power through this list with ease, putting you in a position to score fast, and score big, in electrified vehicles.
The total package.?
So, let’s break down your list of items, one by one.?
First up – experience. Nobody in the industry has as more time and resources invested in power electronics than Delphi Technologies. We made the call some 25 years ago to specialize in the category, understanding that the efficient conversion, control and conditioning of electric power in vehicles would be needed for our customers to meet increasing emission and fuel economy regulations, as well as create consumer acceptance for hybrids and electric vehicles.
Second, system architectures. We know how to map out hardware, software, componentry and wiring configurations that maximize power and range, yet minimize complexity and costs. We don’t look at just one platform, we look at them all, engineering for scale across vehicle types, propulsion options and power levels. And, we never mistake common for cookie cutter. We actively work with our customers to find ways to use power to differentiate the experience for the driver, from heart-pumping torque to mind-blowing autonomy.
Third, state-of-the-art packaging. We know space is a premium on hybrids and EVs. Size, of course, is a big factor but so is position. You need the flexibility found in both to avoid compromising interior space, as well as being able to protect componentry from long-term exposure to heat, vibration and more. Thanks in large part to our Viper technology, we’ve mastered combining. Viper’s cooling properties and size allows us to combine products such as inverters and DC/DC converters into single units. And our ability to design “automotive grade” electronics – products able to withstand extremes in g-forces, temperatures and debris – gives us an edge in embedding, as is evidenced by our "all-in-one" box.
Fourth, material advances. We’ve long embraced the advantages of silicon carbide in our on-board chargers, and its miniaturization properties, including its very-high operating temperature tolerances, present promising options for both inverters and converters in the near future. And, our partnership with PolyCharge, and its thin polymer dielectrics, will further shrink the size and boost the temperature resistance on capacitors.
Finally, products. Our suite of differentiated solutions, including inverters, converters and on-board chargers, deliver best-in-class performance in size (on average, 30 percent smaller); in weight (up to 40 percent smaller); power density (some 25% more); and significant cost reductions (upwards of 10%).?
Fast Take: Managing EV mandates.
Our goal is to stay ahead in power electronics. We’re focused on bringing to market solutions that continue to increase packaging flexibility; enhance power density, range and scalability; eliminate complexity; and bring down size and costs.
